Athens
A portion of the Bible that has stuck with me ever since sitting at Athens Airport in October last year, waiting for my flight to SA, is from the book of Acts, chapter 17.
verse 24, He is the God who made the world and everything in it. Since He is Lord of heaven and earth, He doesn’t live in man-made temples.
and then again backing up this statement in 1 Corinthians 6:19,
Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself.
There is a temple in Istanbul in Turkey. Over 100's of years it changed from being a Christian place of worship to a Muslim place of worship. At present it is a museum capturing and all these years of strife.
It brings a lot of freedom, but also some awe to think that in truth we, when we become believers, are actually the temple of God. God is definitely not restricted to any building made with human hands but dwells in us. Even though these man-made temples are beautiful works of art, and may create some sort of sense of wonder, God isn't living there unless one of His sons or daughters is present in the place.
I think a reason why we try and box God into buildings is that we try to shun the reality that we are accountable to God every day, 24 hours a day, because He is continually with us and living in us. Where actually this should be and in truth is the biggest JOY ever! The purpose of our Creation! He lives in us; we walk with Him.
It was said of Abraham that he walked in habitual fellowship with God. He wasn't perfect, but He fellowshiped honestly with the Lord. Wow!
I desire to be freed completely from the constraints of a dead religion and walk, talk and enjoy a life with God.
